UNIQUE SCOTTISH STUDY OFFERS HOPE TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH PERSISTENT PAIN

Research reveals self-management as a key route to improvement for people with chronic pain

Award-winning research from charity Pain Concern offers hope to the one-in-five people in the UK affected by chronic pain. New resources developed from the independent research and launched today, Monday 28 September, 2015, aim to help people living with the debilitating condition. The team behind the ‘Barriers Project’ – a two-year study which initially identified issues preventing people getting the best support from their GP – later developed a series of resources, based on the latest recommendations, to guide people towards the benefits of self-management of chronic pain.

Health Survey for England reveals a nation in pain
Today's Health Survey for England reveals more than 14 million sufferers of chronic pain - pain which has lasted for more than three months. The study found that pain is more common among some groups than others, pain incurs significant costs and has serious mental health and wellbeing implications.

The NBPA is a charitable organisation of professionals with an interest in pain, whose aim is to promote education and research to encourage a greater awareness of the importance of pain management.
